OUR national flag and the cry of “Malaysia
Boleh” have inspired various feats among Malaysians.
With National Day drawing near, a group of
citizens is spurred once more to create another record centering on the Jalur
Gemilang.
Malaysian Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association
(MVFRA) and the Ue3 Shopping complex in Kuala Lumpur have launched a project to
build a 24.4m X 12.2m flag of used mineral water bottles.
The feat will be entered into the Malaysia Book
of Record (MBR) when it is completed by Aug 6.
MVFRA chairman K.Balasupramaniam said the
project aimed to encourage recycling, inculcate the volunteering spirit and
patriotism.
The organizers need about 20,000 bottles of
1.51-size, 2,000 of 500ml-size bottles and 250 volunteers to construct the flag.
The bottles will be stuffed with recycled colour
paper of blue, yellow and red.
The completed flag will be displayed at the
shopping complex’s concourse.
Ue3 senior complex manager Jayantha Rajendra
said this record-breaking project was unique as it required mass participation.
MBR founder and managing editor Danny Ooi said
the attempt would come under Human Achievement Record.
Jayantha added that the organizers would look
into submitting the feat to the Guinness Book of Records when the project was
finished.
The public can send empty bottles to collection
points in Ue3, Jalan Loke Yew, throughout July.
