PENANG, Wed: The first local Fire Kids
Club Safety Workshop will be held for children aged six to 10 on Sunday at
Island Plaza.
Don Law, workshop organizer Medic-Link
Sdn Bhd’s- managing director, said there is a need to train children on how to
respond during a fire, especially when both parents are at work.
“The child may be left alone, or with a
miad, who might not know what to do,” he said.
“It is important that the children be
taught what to do when there is a fire, so that young lives are not lost,” Law
said.
“To hold the children’s interest, the
three-hour workshop will involve them in rescue and fire-fighting
demonstrations,” he said.
The workhop will be conducted by a
group of 20 volunteers from the Malaysian Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association
based in Kuala Lumpur.
The workshop, which is sponsored by
Hotel Equatorial, Peneng, is expected to attract 300 young participants.
“At the workshop’s end certificates of
participation will be handed out to the children.
“The club will also send them updates
on club events such as refresher courses,” Law said.
The participation fee for the workshop
is RM20 a child.
